I've been seeing so many comments floating around social media about Blogging. Mainly others making comments on advertisements. I tend to shy away from posting in these threads, even when I feel so compelled to say something (you know, just SOMETHING) but I don't. Unfortunately, some think everything is too good to be true. Many times it is, yes. But, I'm here to tell you that can make money as a Blogger (actually, you can make REALLY good money blogging, but we will get into that at another time).
Sure, there are many places that you can start a blog for free. You can get your domain name, and start Blogging right away. For ZERO dollars! That's all well and good if you want to blog as a hobby. If you are starting your blog to make money with it (amongst many other reasons) you need to think of it like your business. A little bit of money spent to secure your businesses future and success isn't considered a bad investment, at all! Especially when the investment is so minimal!
Which brings me to my first point of this post. In order to really become a successfully paid Blogger, you have to have a self-hosted website (specifically WordPress). To sum it up, it means YOU OWN your domain and you have YOUR own web hosting service! In this case, the only way your blog is going to get shut down is if you decide to stop Blogging. Not because you're stuck on a free platform with all of their rules and regulations on what you can do. In reality, chances are if the free platform you use lets you do it, the 3rd party you want to work with probably won't work with you anyhow. So either way, you're stuck when it comes to making money and building a business.
You can't lease a property out to a tenant unless you own the property you're leasing, right? So why would you try to start your Blogging business in a manner where it's not yours? There is so much I could say about this, but I don't want to carry on forever. I have another point to make after I'm done here.
I purchased MY OWN self-hosting service with Bluehost (there are other self-hosting companies out there, but Bluehost is great and I'm only representing what I think is great on my blog, it's mine so I can make that choice!) The few times I did have a technical malfunction, I simply reached out to Tech Support, and like a snap of the finger it was fixed! They have very, very reasonable rates. You can start off with a lower priced plan, and upgrade as your blog grows. They have options available for all Bloggers. Whether you're just starting out, or you've been around for a while. They have a plan that will work for you!
Check Bluehost out right here: Bluehost you can get a plan for as little as $3.95 per month (sometimes even less, check it out to see what the lowest rate is right now). If you ask me, $3.95 is a small price to pay for the amount benefits that you will get! That's less than $1.00 per week to start a business that gives you the endless opportunity!
Your opportunities are ENDLESS and LIMITLESS when you have your own, self-hosted website! If you're going to start a blog or are blogging but keep hitting dead ends because you aren't self-hosted, now is the time to check out Bluehost! The link is above, but I'll post it here again before I move onto the next topic. Click here for Bluehost
Everyone who is online has at some point encountered the “sign up for my email list” or “subscribe” option. That is someone creating an email list of those who are interested in or enjoy their content. When you sign up for self-hosting through Bluehost, they will give you the option of which email provider you'd like to use to manage those who join your email list. It's free, easy to pick. They'll walk you right through.
But….yes, I'm sorry, there's a but in there! Although you will have a list of people that your email provider will send notices too when you make new posts, you will never be able to send custom emails to these people! What if you want to send a newsletter? Notify your fans of an upcoming giveaway or contest? Tell them about a new book you're about to release and make available to download? Anything at all that you'd need to contact your dedicated fans (the ones that make or break our success) is by starting off on day one with a way to manage an email list that you can contact directly, yourself!
Remember how I said that I was only going to tell you about the best of the best? Well, I've got another epiphany for you! I use Convertkit! In all honesty, I fell in love with it after watching their brief (maybe five-minute) demo video on their website.
Convertkit is specifically created for Bloggers! That's it! It's tailored to specifically fit all of our needs as Bloggers. Which means you will now be able to send out newsletters if you want or tell everyone about the epic contest you just started, or about the book you're about to release. What about a course? Did you create an awesome course that will not only help others but make your blog a money machine? Well, how will you market it to people who you've already been establishing a relationship with through your blog if you can't TELL THEM ANYTHING!
Convertkit truly is one of the best investments I've ever made. I have to admit, I'm far from being tech savvy. I was so overwhelmed when I first started using WordPress. Just like any new program, you need to figure it out Thankfully it didn't take me long to grasp it (after many YouTube videos and customized tutorials). I can tell you from experience that you won't encounter that problem with Convertkit, they walk you through all of the steps in the very beginning via a video checklist!
Watch the video, complete the step and move onto the next. The steps are easy enough to do that you'll be able to navigate it after the set-up steps. They also have AMAZING support! I emailed once with a question (at 4:30 a.m., I honestly wasn't expecting an answer right off simply due to the time of day) my email pinged minutes after I sent it with a response! I couldn't believe it! It wasn't an automated response either, it was a live human answering my specific question that nothing automated could ever answer! I was quite impressed with that instant service.
You can check Convertkit out by clicking the link I just posted (<- that way). Watch their demo first, you'll see for yourself just how amazing it is! I feel that it's something every Blogger needs to have! Especially if you have big plans for your business! I know I do, what about you?
