PERFECT Pie Crust Recipe – Buttery, Flaky, YUM!
Have you been looking for a perfect pie crust recipe, one that you can use with everything pie? Look no more, I have the answer right here for you!
When the season finally changes over to fall and it's cool enough to turn the oven on I break out my best recipes! Pie's, cookies, breads, roasts, you name it! I love to cook, especially in the fall! Years ago, I used to cheat when it came to my pie crusts. I'd buy the pre-made box, and add the tablespoon or two of water to the ready-made mix. Viola, there was my crust.
As the years passed, and I took my cooking skills more seriously, I decided if I was going to bake I wanted to do it right! I picked up the phone and called my Grandmother! She's 93 years old. I remember her pie crusts being so tasty everyone raved about the crust moreover the filling itself. As she read me the simple instructions, I couldn't believe how easy it was! I questioned the simplicity, thinking to myself that there's no way something as good as it was could be that simple to make. I was proven wrong after I tried it myself.
This Perfect Pie Crust recipe is so perfect, you'll never make anything but again! The type of pie doesn't seem to matter either. It's buttery taste and flaky shell blends well with anything from Apple pie to Meat pie!
Get out your pens! Here's the Perfect Pie Crust Recipe:
Here's what you'll need:
- 2.5 Cups of Flour
- 1 Teaspoon of Sugar
- 2 Sticks of Salted Butter (chilled)
- 3-7 Tablespoons of Ice Water
Measure 2.5 Cups of flour in a bowl, dice butter into cubes and cut butter into flour (I use a fork, you can use butter knives or something of your choice) Cut butter until mixture is crumbly, being careful not to over mix
Add Ice-Water one tablespoon at a time, until dough is formed. I've used as little as 3 Tablespoons of ice-water and as much as 5. Though my Grandmother's recipe calls for as much as 7.
Once your dough is formed (again, don't over mix) separate into equal sized dough balls. Flatten each into a disc
Wrap each disc in plastic wrap and refrigerate for one-hour. Once refrigerated for one-hour, remove dough from refrigerator and allow to sit at room temperature for about ten minutes.
On a well-floured surface, roll out first dough ball into a 1/8″ thick piece and place in your pie pan. Repeat with 2nd dough ball if your pie requires a top. Or, freeze for future use.
Viola! There is your Perfect Pie Crust Recipe! This Pie crust will end up being a buttery, flaky crust that everyone will love! After giving this recipe a whirl myself, I never went back to the pre-made pie crust mixes again. This recipe is easy to make and tasty!
